I remember for some reason one of the first purchases I wanted to make after college when I started making income was a Tiffany Lamp. Tiffany Lamps were created by Louis Comfort Tiffany, the son of Charles Tiffany who started the jewelry house “Tiffany and Company”. Louis Comfort Tiffany operated a foundry out of Queens, NY where he produced the leaded glass that went into his lamps. Each lamp was made by hand. Collectors today will pay anywhere from $5,000 to an astounding $3.3 million for an actual Tiffany Studios lamp.
Today, most Tiffany-style lamps you can buy are mass-produced in China. On the negative side there isn’t quite the prestige nor novelty of owning a Tiffany-style lamp as there once was, but on the positive side they’re still beautiful to look at and you can get one for a lot less money.
The lamp shown in Animal Crossing is called a pendant-style lamp, meaning it hangs from the ceiling from a chain like a chandelier. Tiffany-style lamps also come as traditional table lamps, ceiling lamps, and floor lamps.
