Not surprisingly, the first electric rice cooker was invented in Japan by Mitsubishi Electric in 1923. Toshiba introduced the first electric rice cooker for home use in 1955. Zojirushi got into the rice cooker business in 1970s, and introduced a number of innovation including the use of microcomputers (micom) to manage the different phases of rice cooking just like an expert would, and eventually introducing other innovations like AI, induction heating, and pressure cooking to make the perfect bowl of rice.
The inspiration for this rice cooker is clear—it's the top selling rice cooker brand in Japan called Zojirushi. In particular, the in-game rice cooker looks a lot like this IRL rice cooker: the Zojirushi NL-AAC10 Micom Rice Cooker. I have one like this, and the rice comes out amazing—perfectly fluffy and flavorful with just the right "bite", not soggy or too dry. Once you taste rice cooked in a genuine Zojirushi, you'll never go back to cheap rice cookers again.
