Twinkling Painting (The Starry Night)

The Starry Night is widely regarded as Van Gogh’s greatest work. Van Gogh painted it in June 1889 from the east-facing window of Saint-Paul-de-Mausole, the asylum that Van Gogh admitted himself to shortly after his breakdown of December 23, 1888. The painting is of the view from the asylum. He actually painted multiple versions of this scene during the daytime, but his night view is what has captured the interest of art lovers worldwide. Van Gogh would go on to kill himself a little more than a year later on July 29, 1890, never to realize that his paintings would go on to become the most valuable in the world.
