While the invention of a machine to dispense chewing gum dates back to the Thomas Adams Gum Company in 1888 and the Pulver Manufacturing Company in 1897, it wasn’t until 1934 that the Ford Gum and Machine Company introduced the Carousel gumball machine. That’s the classic gumball machine with the round shape, the coin slot, and the twisting knob that you can still see today.
A company called Carousel still sells a replica of the original gumball machine for home use. It still has the classic gumball machine look with a cast iron base, a glass dome, and a stylized metal plate and coin slot. You can even adjust the amount of candy that comes through for each coin you put in. You can buy it at Amazon for under $30.
