Mr. Flamingo and Mrs. Flamingo are based on the classic plastic flamingo lawn ornament, one of the most recognizable pieces of American yard décor. The original pink flamingo was designed in 1957 by artist Don Featherstone for the Union Products company and quickly became a symbol of playful, slightly kitschy suburban style. Over time, flamingo decorations came to represent whimsy, humor, and personality in outdoor spaces, which fits perfectly with Animal Crossing’s lighthearted approach to decorating gardens and yards.
